Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that involves inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing. It works by balancing the body's energy flow, known as "Qi," and by promoting circulation in areas of pain or imbalance, which can help reduce discomfort, inflammation, and stress.
Motion Acupuncture is a unique approach that combines traditional acupuncture with specific movement techniques to enhance treatment results. At Arctic Acupuncture, we use this method to effectively address chronic pain by helping the body learn healthier movement patterns and reduce tension.
During your first visit, we'll review your medical history, pain areas, and personal wellness goals. Then, you'll receive a customized acupuncture treatment tailored to your needs. If appropriate, we may incorporate Motion Acupuncture techniques to support your recovery.
Most patients experience minimal to no pain during acupuncture treatments. The needles are much thinner than typical needles used for injections, and many people feel only a slight pinch or tingling sensation when the needles are inserted. Relaxation is common during treatments. When we use motion acupuncture technique, localized mild burning sensations are common.
The number of sessions depends on the severity and type of condition being treated. For chronic pain conditions like migraines, joint, or back pain, it’s common to see noticeable improvement within a few sessions, with cumulative benefits over time. We’ll discuss a personalized treatment plan during your consultation.
Yes! Many of our patients seek relief from chronic lower back pain, and acupuncture can be highly effective. We also offer specialized approaches, like Motion Acupuncture, which can be particularly beneficial for back pain by enhancing stability and movement in the area.
Yes, we only use single-use, sterile needles. After each treatment, needles are safely disposed of to maintain the highest hygiene and safety standards.
Many insurance plans now offer coverage for acupuncture, especially when it is used to treat pain conditions. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your coverage. We can also provide documentation to help you with reimbursement if required.
It’s best to stay hydrated, avoid heavy exercise, and rest as much as possible after a session. Give your body time to process the treatment and enjoy any relaxation effects. For chronic pain issues, we may also suggest gentle exercises or stretches to support your progress.
In most cases, you don’t need a referral to begin acupuncture treatments. However, some insurance providers may require it for coverage, so it’s best to check with them if you plan to use insurance.
Acupuncture is generally safe for most people, but it’s important to share any medical conditions or medications you’re taking before treatment. We customize each session to address your specific needs, ensuring it’s safe and effective for you.
We recommend eating a light meal before your session and wearing loose, comfortable clothing. It’s also helpful to come with any questions you have, and feel free to share any recent changes in your pain or health that we should be aware of.
